Wild Stories from the Road: The Guerrilla Nomad Collection
As you can imagine, this lifestyle leads to some wild stories—and more than a few near-death experiences. I’ve faced robberies, motorcycle crashes, drunken nights, and more than one instance of waking up to find tanks in the streets after a coup. I also worked as a security contractor in Iraq during the height of the Private Military Contractor era.
This series of articles will eventually form the ultimate collection of firsthand travel experiences, hard-earned lessons, and motivation for digital nomads, backpackers, and expats.
Stories from a Pre-Smartphone World
These stories come from a time before apps, before Google Translate—when the best option was to find an internet café, pay for 15-minute blocks, and use slow dial-up. Each one captures the challenges, surprises, and unforgettable moments of traveling in a world that wasn’t yet connected.
Why Keeping These Stories Alive Matters
Reading real, unfiltered travel stories gives you:
✔ A realistic look at life on the road—the good, the bad, and the ridiculous
✔ Motivation to take the leap into travel and long-term nomadism
✔ Practical lessons learned through experience
✔ A deeper understanding of what makes travel truly meaningfulNext Steps
I’ll be posting these stories as I write them. The first article will explain why travel storytelling matters for Guerrilla Nomads and what lessons can be taken from real-life travel experiences. Stay tuned.
